2024 Local Impact

Muskoka 411 Article

Thank you to everyone who attended our 2nd meeting Wednesday, August. 28, 2024. It was a great evening and we were blown away by the support of our community and the hearts to learn and hear about these important and impactful charities in our community!

Congratulations to our chosen charity; Food4Kids Muskoka. Thank you to Sarah Thatcher and Kristie Shaver for bringing awareness regarding this initiative. As a group, collectively we donated $7,260.00 to help support their mission as they address hunger in our community. Food4Kids provides packages of healthy food for kids aged 4-13 years with limited or no access to food each weekend. The food packages are assembled by volunteers and delivered to schools each Friday to ensure children have nourishment over the weekend. The worsening economy, job loss, working poor, illness, mental health, marriage breakdown or those fleeing their home country to seek safe refuge in Canada, are some of the reasons parents turn to Food4Kids for support.

On June 18, 2024, we had our inaugural meeting where over 80 people were in attendance, multiple people donated even though they could not be in attendance as well as a top-up of $1,900.00 from Baycrest Distribution. Just an overwhelming amount of support from our community to make local impact a priority. It is because of participation and donations that make this local impact possible!

The June 18, 2024 chosen charity was Andy’s House- Hospice Muskoka receiving $10,840.00 in donations.

Hospice Muskoka has provided palliative and end-of-life support to residents of South and West Muskoka since 1995 through their outstanding clinical services and volunteer programs. They have earned the trust of our community and have built a reputation of excellence for service delivery. Over their extensive history, they have formed partnerships with community organizations and local government.

The Palliative Approach to Care is a method of providing care that honours the wishes of the person experiencing a life-limiting diagnosis. Hospice staff and volunteers walk beside a person and their loved ones throughout their journey. From the time of diagnosis, staying with them through the palliation period, end-of-life and the grief and bereavement process.
